MPH Program Requirements
Mandatory
advising is required each quarter in order to enroll for the following
quarter. Holds are placed on registration and will only be removed
following advising.
Courses are
offered in the evening or partially online or occasionally on Saturdays.
All courses taken
to satisfy the requirements for the degree must be completed with a
minimum grade-point average of 3.0 ("B-") or better, except that a
course in which no letter grade is assigned shall not be used in
computing the grade point average.
Students must file
a leave of absence form if they will not be enrolled, even for a single
quarter.
Students who are absent for one
quarter or more and who have not filed a leave of absence will lose
their status and be required to reapply to the University and the
master's program.
Continuous enrollment includes
students who are taking classes and those who have completed all
coursework and are working on the thesis/project or preparing for the
comprehensive exams. Students must enroll each quarter until all
required courses and the project or thesis is accepted or the
comprehensive examination passed. Graduate students who have completed
all course work maintain continuous enrollment by registering for the
698 course (Continuous Enrollment for Graduate Candidacy Standing).
The program must be
completed within a seven-year period. Course work is generally
completed in two years and then the thesis or project will take
additional time to complete.
Degree Requirements (60 units)
Following completion of 16 quarter
units, and before completion of 20 quarter units , the student will be
provided a Program of Study form (usually during spring quarter) to
complete which will indicate the choice of courses for the second year
of study. Students will be advanced to candidacy which means they are
allowed to continue in the program once the Program of Study form is
accepted and approved by the MPH Program Coordinator.
