The Addendum to the School
Nurse Credential Program will allow Credentialed School Nurses to obtain a
California Single Subject Health Teaching Credential. Successful
completion of the 3 course STAH sequence is intended to increase the
marketability of school nurses and facilitate improvement of the health
education instruction they provide to their respective schools. The
California Single Subject Credential qualifies the holder to teach in
middle school and high school.

Students should apply
to the STAH program after successfully completing their School Nurse
Credential.

2. |
Coursework will begin
with Health Science 302, Instructional Methods in Health Education. This
course is currently planned for the winter, 2005 quarter.

The
final two courses are offered in the spring, 2005 quarter. These courses
are Health Science 591, Health Education Curriculum and Instruction, and
Health Science 592, School Nurse Practicum in Health Education.

Required student observations of credentialed health teachers are
completed during HSCI 591 in the winter quarter and the actual practice
teaching will be supervised by an approved credentialed health teacher and
monitored by the course instructor during the spring quarter in HSCI 592.

The
Addendum to the School Nurse Credential program allows school nurses to
complete the classroom based requirements in the district where they are
presently employed if a credentialed health teacher is available to
provide supervision.
